Provincial Offences
Provincial Offences Court representation in Ontario
Charges under Ontario laws and municipal by-laws are heard in Provincial Offences Court. Get representation from disclosure through resolution or trial.
What are provincial offences?
Provincial offences are breaches of Ontario laws and municipal by-laws, handled under the Provincial Offences Act. Many are traffic related, but they also include charges under laws such as the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act and the Trespass to Property Act, and by-law charges laid by a municipality.
How these matters usually start
- A ticket (offence notice). The most common route. You choose to pay, meet the prosecutor, or request a trial.
- A parking ticket. Handled through a separate, simpler process.
- A summons. Used for more serious charges. Attending court on the date shown is required.
Do not ignore it. Ignoring a ticket or summons can lead to a conviction without a hearing, added penalties, and trouble renewing a licence or plates.
How the service helps
- Confirming exactly which charge applies and what deadlines run
- Requesting and reviewing disclosure, the evidence the prosecution intends to use
- Explaining options and the realistic risks of each
- Negotiating with the prosecutor where it makes sense
- Representation at trial, including questioning witnesses and making submissions
Before you decide
Not every charge is worth fighting, and some are. Honest advice on which applies comes before any retainer. Fees are quoted in writing up front. See services and billing.
